Don’t be a fly on the wall. Don’t be afraid of being shot down. Don’t be intimidated. Put yourself out there, a constant exchange of ideas clarifies the path, paves a road to the destination. In other words, if your company doesn’t listen to the peons, it’s on the road to extinction. Furthermore, if you aren’t speaking up, you’re the problem. If no one is listening, don’t complain, switch jobs.
Describes my situation a year ago perfectly. Not necessarily an easy thing to do in a 9% unemployment economy, but a valid thought. If an employee has a point of view, it’s generally because they actually give a shit; companies that value longevity keep these sorts of people around, companies with the foresight capacity of a toddler don’t keep these sorts of people around, one way or another.
